Why recycle old computers?

Every single day thousands of computers are replaced, deemed as beyond repair or left redundant for other reasons. This leaves hundreds of tones of equipment left to find a new home. Over the years research has shown that hundreds of thousands of tons of computer equipment ends up in landfill sites each year. Computers are mainly made of  low value metal and plastic almost of this equipment is easily recyclable. In fact there are also valuable metals inside computers, this is normally very small amounts that are found mainly on the circuit boards. Just like glass bottles, paper and wood computers are recyclable and this saves making more materials, saving on energy, mining, quarrying and carbon. Preserving the environment and the planet for out future generations.

What can we recycle?

Any old/faulty computers, old/faulty laptops, computer equipment and parts, laptop equipment and parts, old/faulty printers, old/faulty scanners,

Its never been easier to recycle old computer equipment. All you have to do is make a call and we will come and collect it all for you.

what do we do with the equipment?

First the equipment is separated into waste and usable equipment, the waste is then separated into plastics, metals and other parts such as pcb’s. Each part is them dealt with in the correct appropriate way. Metals and plastics go for recycling and circuit boards (pcb’s) are collect and sent for smelting, this is where valuable metals are separated from other materials such as fibre glass.

I have equipment what do I do?

call us on 01324 877183 and we’ll arrange a convenient collection time.

Is there a charge?

This is a totally free service and its only under exceptional circumstances that we would have to charge. If you have a CRT monitor these contain mercury and have to be dealt with in a different way. We may have to make a small charge depending on how much equipment you have and the amount of CRTs collected in one collection. Call us or use the contact us form and well be able to go through the details with you.

How do we handle Data?

We understand that old equipment may have important or confidential data on it. All media will stay in the possession of our company at all times. We can either destroy the media for you (off site) or wipe the data from the drive (on site or off site). We will provide you with a certifaicte to stae the data has been destroyed and the process used to destroy it. This will be military/NHS standards.

On site data destruction

It takes around 30 minutes for a hard drive to be wiped. Multiple drives takes around 15 minutes each. We will charge £8.00 for each drive wiped on site but we can buy these drives back off you for £8.00 each if you do not want to keep them. Due to the value of drives under 60Gb these will only ever be destroyed as they are worth less than the amount of time it takes to wipe.
